Traditional Hula Skirts
The traditional Hula skirt, also known as a Pa'u Skirt, is a traditional style skirt use in hula performances.
In the traditional Hawaiian language, Pa’u means skirt but in the modern age it is traditionally referred to as a Pa'u skirt or hula skirt as the work pa'u may have other cultural meanings when spoken alone.
The traditional hula skirt normally is make with three or 4 rows of elastic to create a structured and tight waist band that is meant to hold during performances as hula dancers move. We like to go one step further and make the waistbands adjustable on the inside allowing for a one-size design that can fit anyone from sizes XS-2XL.
Most hula skirts use about 4 yards of fabric to create a very gathered design that creates volume that is further emphasized in the movements of a Hula dancer as they perform.
Hula skirts are usually about 27 in. in length. We like to offer additional lengths of 29in and even other custom lengths upon request.
Keiki (Kids) hula pa'u skirts
Keiki hula skirts are also common for younger children. Depending on the age of the child we can offer additional customizations for a individual hula pa'u skirt or for a halau group.
